Its location is unique, as it is situated in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, in the Born area, center of Barcelona, making it possible to walk to most of the tourist site in the city. Not far away, just 200 meters, you will find the Church of Santa Maria del Mar, famous for its Catalan Gothic architecture, or the renowned Picasso Museum.

THE CENTRE OF BARCELONA

If you love art, history and tranquility, we are your economic hostel in the centre of Barcelona. The Born neighborhood is one of the oldest and most historic and cultural areas in Barcelona. Its name comes from the tournaments that were held tin the Plaza del Born during the Middle Ages. It was a cultural and economic center of Barcelona during the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries.Later, and thanks to the prosperity experienced by the trade routes, the area grow considerably, with luxurious mansions such as the ones on Montcada street.

The Born is one of the four neighborhoods that constitutes Ciutat Vella district, inside we have the Ciudadela Park, five minutes walking from Pension Ciudadela, where originally was located the extinct military fortress Ciutadella. You still can visit the Arc de Triomf. The Ciudadela Park is a large expanse of green areas that makes it a quiet and welcoming place to spend the afternoon, there we can find the Barcelona Zoo.

THE BORN DISTRICT

Perhaps the most notable tourist spot in the area is the old El Born Market, opened in 1876 as one of the first markets in the city and characterized by maintaining a prominent iron architecture, within the modernist trend.
It remained in operation until the 1970s and then became an exhibition space. In 2000 it was planned to be and important Library of Barcelona, nevertheless during the works, archaeological remains (prior to the Spanish War of Succession in 1714 ) from the Ribera neighborhood were discovered, so the Born became a Cultural Centre, inaugurated in 2013.

Another of the magical places of the El Born neighborhood is the Santa Caterina Market, a must-see during your stay at the guest house in Barcelona. This building stands out for having a ground-breaking style roof, inspired by Gaudí’s trencadís, and which was designed by architects Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliablue.

SURROUNDINGS OF THE CIUDADELA PENSION

Just 15 minutes on foot from the Ciudadela Pension, we find Las Ramblas, the Barcelona Cathedral or the Palau de la Música. Near Pension Ciudadela is the maritime area of Port Vell, with elegant shops and places to go for lunch or a drink at night. If we cross the ‘Rambla del Mar’ we will reach the Barcelona Aquarium. Just five minutes walk from the hotel is the fishermen’s district of Barceloneta, famous for its beach bars, fish and seafood restaurants and nice sandy beaches.

MOVING TO AND FROM PENSION CIUDADELA

Pension Ciudadela is located in the very centre of the city, so you can get around on foot to lots of places. However, from our budget hostel in the centre of Barcelona you have several public transport options.

The Francia Train Station, which connects directly trains to Sants Station, Barcelona Airport or Paseo de Gracia. Or if you come or go by bus, the Northern Bus Station, which is just a 20-minute walk away. In addition, just two minutes from our budget hostel in the centre of Barcelona there are public buses that connect directly to places such as the Sagrada Familia or Park Güell.

Pension Ciudadela also has nearby metro lines such as the L4 Barceloneta, yellow line, which is a five-minute walk away, and the L1 Arc de Triomf red line, 15 minutes away.
